Let’s FOCUS!!!

I think we have all lost our focus in this muck that the McCain campaign has been slinging in an attempt to hide the fact that they have more of the same to bring to the White House.  As interesting as sex education for 5-year-olds and what shade of lipstick becomes a pig, I would like to focus on the issues!  The issue of the day being the downward spiral that is the U.S. economy.

Today was a tough day with Lehman Brothers filing bankruptcy, Merrill Lynch selling itself to the Bank of America, and the Dow dropping 504 points.  Even scarier is that we don’t know what tomorrow brings.   Alan Greenspan has said that our chances of escaping a recession are less than 50 percent.  Barack Obama out on the campaign trail shows us that indeed he is focused on the issues saying that we are enduring, “the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression.”  And what does John McCain say?  He told a group of Floridians that, “the fundamentals of our economy are strong.”

I’m trying to figure out exactly what “fundamentals” McCain was referring to.  How about the one where our government disregards important health regulations and allows the importation of toys from China covered in lead paint?  Or how about where our government looks the other way while banks gave mortgages to anyone regardless of whether they could really afford it?  I think he is referring to the fundamental of look the other way while my friends (i.e. donors) make money.  No wonder he thinks he can get us all to look the other way now.  He and the Republican party has been doing it for eight years!  But I know that we are smarter than that.  We should be offended that McCain thinks we are dumb enough to divert our eyes from the issues to focus on his petty distractions.
